Welcome to St. Anthony!

Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church is a small and friendly parish in SE Portland—just off SE Powell and 82nd Ave. The staff and I  hope that our worship, programs and services will help you and your family grow in your relationship with God. We also hope that you encounter St. Anthony as not just a place to come on Sunday, but as a set of relationships that have a positive impact on your life.

Baptism is Not Just a Symbol

Once a baby is conceived in the womb, the baby is immediately accepted and recognized as member of the family.  Do the mother and father wait until the child is two or five years  before they decide to call the child their own? On the contrary, the father and mother  and in fact all family members do not wait for the baby to be born for the baby to be called "son" or "daughter" -  rightful heirs to what the family has to offer. The family does not wait for the baby to be older before it recognizes the child as belonging to the family. Baptism bestows the same acknowledgement to anyone being baptized - in baptism we immediately become and belong to God's family. God awaits each one who would like to be his child with joy through baptism. Life continues to be sometimes challenging even for the baptized, but through baptism we can call on God as "Father," "Abba" and with it all the resources we will need to be saved and reunited with Him in eternity.  At the start of the year, a most wonderful gift to your family is for all who are not baptized to come together and ask for baptism. Baptism is never too early, and never too late. Let us know! Scan the code or call 503-771-6039.
